Tesco Club CreditCard - 2nd Class Service?

Received this months Tesco Clubcard Credit Card statement on Saturday 15th March - with notice for payment to reach them by the 23rd March!
Is this 4 working days to get payment to them a record?

I know its a 15 day period from summary to due date - but why do they use 2nd class post to deliver the statements?

The statement was dated the 8th March, Customer Service say it was posted on the 9th and they can't control the speed of delivery!!!

I understand the option to pay by Directdebit, but its not advertised as a paperless or Direct Debit account only! On the reverse of the statement it clearly states that you can pay by post (allow 7 - 10 working days) or by bank (allow 4 days).

  • My Tesco credit card statement dated 17th February hadn't arrived by Saturday 1st March when I went away for a few days. When I arrived home on 5th March the statement was waiting for me. So that means that the statement took 15-17 days to arrive.

I've had the same experience with Tesco, went away for a week got back and the statement was due in 2 days with four days needed to clear. I Spoke to a supervisor expained that it wasn't reasonable and they agreed to waive any costs. Now I've opted to just receive an e-statement with a text and an email telling me when its in,much more convienient as the statements by mail constantly seemed to arrive late.
  • They seem to have all farmed out postage to bulk delivery companies, so only the last part of the delivery is by Royal Mail. This is fine for junk mail but not for bills, as it is so slow to arrive.

Nationwide use first class post, but no rewards/cashback :-(

Nationwide is also excellent for foreign currency transactions with no commission charge :j

Same here. My wife took out a Tesco Credit Card for the extra points. Statement dated 12 March. Arrived today 19th March. Payment due 27th March which is 3 clear bank working days and not long enough to ensure payment reaches them! We've sent an angry email to customer.service@tesco.co.uk. No email address or contact form given on the actual credit card site (I wonder why!).

Registered on the credit card site so can view bills online but until they send a MAC code you cannot pay online. I fail to understand the sense in that. I think I am more concerned with someone seeing my bills than paying them off for me. Not sure that the MAC code will be used anyway as that seems to automatically make you lose the paper bill. Every other web site seems to give you the option. Personally we stick with paper unless there is something in it for us. We have to pay ink and paper costs to print the bill so there has to be quid pro quo.

And have you read the back of the bill? Pay online or over the phone with a debit card and payment is NOT immediate. Well it is on other credit card sites! Allow 4 days it says!

Has another complained to banking ombudsman (if that is the right place). Seems like very unfair contract terms to me.
  • I can see were you are coming from malc_b, however Tesco retail customer services won't be able to help you.You need to call 01268 50 80 27 to sort it out.

I personally pay my one using my debit card over the phone which takes 2 working days. And since I started this I have never received a late payment fee,you can also once you have your MAC code view your statement online and then set up a DD.However online debit card payments can take 4 working days.

P.S I do not work for Tesco or RBS

Count yourself lucky, they will not give me a card account
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.
  • My wife and I are also having a running battle with TESCO CLUBCARD STATEMENTS !!
She has received today (19th March) her statement dated 13TH MARCH with yet another late payment fee from last month !! She has till 28th March to pay AND CLEAR HER ACCOUNT I rang tesco and they as usual were very unhelpfull and said its not their fault it took 5 days to arrive !! WE CANNOT PAY ON TIME BY CHEQUE AS IT IS IMPOSSIBLE !!
They are simply conning people so they can charge an extra £12 every month !!

Thanks for the phone number and the suggestion Mikeyikey. What I find annoying is that they claim it takes ANY time for a debit card payment. That is just NOT true. I know I have bought items online with my debit card and seen the debit on the account the next day (which is what you expect since transactions are actioned over night). I'm looking at Lidl debit card purchase right now. Shopped on 16th Jan (know this as it was date of an exam). On the statement as 17th Jan. QED.

This is just another Tesco rip off scam. Not only do they make it impossible to pay on time but they also move the goal posts compared to every other credit card.

My statement never arrived one month, and I had not yet set up the direct debit so I completly forgot to pay it, the nice lady in their call centre gave me a refund saying I was a valued customer and I set up the DD with her there and then.

I think it could be the Royal Mail who are at fault as a lot of other statements arrive late.
