A total of £25000!!! And I don't know where to start!!
After hiding from that lot and changing phone number her credit rating has long gone.
A few people have mentioned credit rating and trying to keep it.
Sod the credit rating!!! as that has caused this mess in the first place (hand in hand with bad money management of course).
She doesnt need credit now or in the future. She has a house and thats the ONLY thing we need credit for as they are well beyond our means.
I quite certain stressedoutmumof1 will be more than happy never to see another credit card again in her entire life.
Back on topic;
When you phone the ccs/cab write everrything down first so you dont forget anything.
Offering £5 quid off a £3000 debt might seem a joke but its better then no quid.
The mortgage holliday was a brilliant idea, if you can do that for as long as they allow and use that money to pay off the biggest debts or most costly it will help massively.
As Martin said, phone the advisors before telling your other half, then at least you will be presenting him with a problem with a solution rather than just a problem.
I know which one I would prefere to here.
Good luck and it will work out keep us posted.

Hi
Firstly I know how you feel as I am also hide my debt from my OH. I cannot bring myself to tell him although I have just about got control of it now. I owe about the same as you do. Please be strong and contact payplan or the cccs as they will help you. xx As for your outgoings looking at them they can be reduced.
I would firstly start with the food bill. Have a look at the Money Saving old style board on this forum. I have reduced my grocery bill from £350 pcm to £200 pcm (5 of us) with the help of all the lovely people on that board.
Gym cancel
Sky reduce package
Insurance (not car) £66 you should be able to reduce this.
That would give you approx £200 more per month.
Please dont despair there is help out there.
good good luck xx

Please please please don't consider Gregory Pennington or any other fee charging agency. As all the others have said, all they will do is increase your overall debt.
A CAB or other independent advice centre can help you negotiate repayments and assist you in drawing up a financial statement. They can also help you ensure you are receiving everything you are entitled to. Furthermore, although your debt may seem like the hugest in the world, it will be nothing compared to some of their other clients! They are not going to judge you but will simply help you find your way out of a mess. Also, they can speak to creditors on your behalf.
Debt collecting agencies can seem very aggressive on the phone - it is their job to get you to pay them. And it is very hard to remain calm when it is your finances and your future at stake. As a debt adviser, I speak to collection agencies daily and am quite happy to negotiate with them on behalf of my clients. They don't scare me and it is not my money they, so it is sometimes easier for me to deal with them.
Try a free advice service eg CAB - it is really hard to ask a complete stranger for help, but once you have done, I bet you will feel much better.
Good luck0 -
