I used Tesco Home delivery on friday as I have just got out of hospital and couldn't go shopping. My dp packed away so I didnt look at the dates. as i have gone to use things that would usually be okay if i had chosen myself, i have found....bread...date up day after delivery... casserole veg...date up day before delivery!!!...4 chicken breasts...date up day after delivery( had to throw away)...6 fruit pies....someone had been playing football with 'em! Definitly wont be wasting that money again! it cost £6.25 delivey charge and i have had to throw away £6 worth of food!
Anyone else had this experience?

Look at the home delivery from Tesco's point of view, and ask yourself why they do it, and what they get out of it. (They don't exactly charge much for delivery!!)
Is it because it's an opportunity to get rid of products that are near their sell by date, that other customers in the shop wouldn't pick up because there's probably other stuff with later sell-by dates??
Other than the veg that had a sell-by date before the delivery date, Tesco didn't really do anything wrong, and it's up to the customer to check the dates, and freeze anything that they're not going to use that might go off.
btw, a sell-by date doesn't necessarily mean it'll go off. it's just a precausion that the manufacturers use.
Some people see home delivery as a convenience, whereas I see it as a clever business strategy to sell food that might not otherwise get sold, or will end up in the "sin bin" (that shelf where all the reduced stuff is).Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
I recently had an order arrive (I try to shop monthly or at least once every two weeks) and all of the meat had stupid dates. I called the helpline number and all of it was refunded.
They advertise that they take care over dates not that they want to get rid of shortdated food so they had no issue at all in making the refund.Katie.0 -
We are thinking of using home delivery for a monthly shop - but it will be staples only; all fresh stuff will be bought as usual in a local shop.
Was it actually mouldy/off; as the use by dates are one big con. If it still smells ok, then you can still use it.0 -
Use by dates are not a big con - they are put on food with a short shelf life which will deteriorate rapidly after a certain amount of time and could be hazardous to health, things like meat, fish, dairy etc.
I think you are confusing them with sell by or best before dates which have different purposes.

I use Tesco.com for home delivery and they are generally OK. I don't have a car, so I order things in bulk that I can't carry - tinned stuff mostly, cat food, washing powder, frozen goods etc.
I do not order fresh meat or veg, because I have long suspected that either they palm you off with stuff that isn't very good, or they just can't be bothered to chose the good stuff and chuck in the first thing that comes to hand.
I can't really complain about them at all because last time my shopping came they included 6 boxes of fish in breadcrumbs, 2 boxes of fish cakes and four Viennetta ice creams that I didn't order and didn't have to pay for!0 -
Part of staff training for pickers is in choosing stuff with as long a code life as possible, and where products usually have a very short date code life, this is mentioned on the Tesco website (there is a little asterisk by the product and it says 'short code life', so you can add a note for the picker to see that says 'min 2 days after delivery' or something like that).
If you complain to the store, they will know who picked your stuff and monitor complaints against individual staff members so they can retrain them if necessary.
Internet orders are certainly not a great way of getting rid of all of the rubbish stuff-it's much better to have a satisfied repeat customer than to annoy someone and never have them use the service again!0 -
I get a monthly Tesco shop for tins, long life milk, pulses etc.I'd never buy fresh stuff this way as I have had c**p bread n cheese before this way:mad:  You live and learn though;)"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"
