Will this Ram work with my girlfriends laptop?

Went round to my girlfriends yesterday for the first time and she asked me to look at her laptop as its been running slugish for months now. After 5 hours or scanning, removing etc I got it running better but still not great. Its a 1.6MHZ Semperon with 256MB of RAM running Windows XP.

I'm thinking the cheapest/easiest way to get it running faster is to buy some more RAM. She has a Packard Bell EasyNote B3312: http://support.packardbell.com/uk/item/index.php?i=spec_mem_cougar_a&ppn=PB21M02301

Will this RAM be compatible with it? http://www.microdirect.co.uk/(7833)Adata-512MB-SO-DIMM-333MHz-DDR-PC-2700-CL25-Memory.aspx

Looks spot on to me, I'm just looking for confirmation!

Go to the crucial memory website, using her laptop, they can scan your laptop and tell you what memory it will use, and they can supply it.

Their service is excellent, with good warranty and customer service support if you have problems.

I already tried that, it couldn't find the memory, said I had to select make, model etc from dropdowns but the model wasn't listed.

Does anyone know if the RAM will work with the laptop??

It looks Ok to me - the only 2 issues are that the tiny image on the Microdirect site looks wrong (notch in the wrong place) - but that's probably because they put a generic image in there - and the question of whether the laptop will support a CAS latency of 2.5. IIRC it can range from 2 to 3, and I would hazard a guess that there is very little chance that the laptop would only support 3.

The biggest advantage though of persisting with Crucial is that if you buy there and it doesn't work you'll get your money back, whereas MD probably won't want to know...

I agree that Crucial is the best way to upgrade RAM but I the scanner doesn't work on my girlfriends laptop, it says it can find an exact match and when I try to use the manual method i.e. dropdowns, I can get as far as Parckard Bell EasyNote, but the exact model isn't in the list so Crucial is out of the question.

My girlfriend wants to order it tomorrow night, can anyone confirm that I'm going for the right kind or point me in the right direction??

I emailed Crucial and they got back to me within a few hours providing a link to the correct RAM for the laptop. Slightly more expensive @ £40 for 1gb (2x 512mb), but will still order from them all the same.

If your unsure what memory is already installed try a nice little program called CPUZ it will let you know exactly what memory you have in your system as well as lots of other usefull information.

Slightly cheaper low density memory here. 34.49 inc for 2 x 512 MB or 18.49 for a single 512 MB stick.
