are police interested in someone taking a loan out in my name?
what do you think
i've found out someone's taken a loan out in my name (its one of those companies that dont do a credit check, but charge loads of interest, give you the money today etc)
so i'm guessing that this person must also have an account in my name?
i've contacted experian, they 've said it wont show on my credit report, as this company dont do a credit check
what can i do?
how can they manage this? because they have also used my address, so how do they make that work?
will the police be interested as its a fraud? or am i wasting my time
i've seen the credit report and all there is, is an address i am associated with that i've never even been to
what should i do, pls help
(i might not be able to reply straight away, school holidays!)
thanks in advance

We had to make a report to the police when we were victims of ID fraud.
Though they didn't seem that interested to be honest!
Why not just call them and ask? It is still a crime afterall.0 -
You can get your credit record changed to show you are not associated with that address.
Definitely report it to the police - although I don't suppose it is just someone with the same name as you who lives at the other address? And the credit ref agency has mistakenly linked your accounts because you have the same name?DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Phone them and see.
thing with names is there can quite easilly be another person with the same name as you. As some DCA try to trace on name alone it is possible for 2 different credit histories to be linked because of it.MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000 -

Contact the victims of fraud dept at experian, they will help you, I have been through this and still to this day I am struggling to get linked addresses removed 93 in total, be persistent, the police are a complete waste of skin!Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? Okey Dokey then, this is my first post so please do not expect too much. I am a serving police officer and I am willing to answer some questions if ppl want to pm me. I AM NOT AN EXPERT ON ALL CRIME. NO POLICE OFFICER IS!!! Criminal law is massive don't expect me or any other officer to know every aspect of it.
In relation to the above posts, a loan taken out in another persons name is Fraud, and by the information given it will be Fraud by false representation.
Now, this is a crime and should be dealt with by the police. However...
PROLIANT states "the police are a complete waste of skin". I'm not going to grant a reply to this comment, however police only deal with "criminal" law. This scenario above could be "civil" law. I do not have all the information to decide on this.
Something that needs to be considered is, if you wasn't the victim of this crime how many man hours would you want the police to spend investigating this, when it is likely that a suspect would not be found/arrested/charged or prosecuted. I would want the police to investigate crime they CAN do something about.
My advice, report this matter to the police IMMEDIATELY so they can start the investigation, but don't expect this to lead somewhere.

If they did not do a credit check then the link address showing on your credit file cannot be a result of this person taking out the loan. It must be something else.
However, if someone else has your details then it's possible they may try again. To protect yourself against this you can register with Cifas and go on the protective registry (http://www.cifas.org.uk/default.asp?edit_id=565-85). This costs £14.10 a year and means that anyone doing a credit search on you will have to speak with you and confirm a password set by you before granting credit. I would definately report this to the police and Cifas will take the crime reference number from you, if you chose to register with them.0 -
have they kept up the repayments of the loan?
If not, they have obtained money by deception which is a Criminal offence and can be persued by the cops.
I'm assuming the loan is via provident? if so, it is up to them to contact the police with you providing a statement to the effect that you didn't take out the loan and the door to door collector verifying that you were not the person they gave the cash to.
you may need to go to court to give evidence but in most cases like this they plead guilty sving you the hassle.
Hope this helps youOfficial DFW nerd no 551 - proud to be dealing with my debts
