I am after a cheap and cheerful MP3 player so I can take on my hols next week....does not have to store lots of songs but just something to keep me occupied for a few hours while I am hanging around at the airport and in the plane

if you want one with a normal mini battery try the matsui MAT110MR.
Or one that charges by the usb port, type 'samsung mp3' into https://www.amazon.co.uk - they support .ogg music formats too - mainly used in Linux.
all have voice record & pc file storage. expect to pay £13.0 -
you could get a refurbished one from Creative, there's a 90 day limited warranty but you get a creative zen stone 1Gb for £13 +P&P. less than half the price of the full retail
or for an extra £6 the Creative Zen V0 -

The 1gb ipod shuffle is £32 in Argos. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5136948/Trail/searchtext%3EIPOD+SHUFFLE.htm
I never thought I would be interested in ipods until my niece requested one for her birthday. I bought it for her (I think £48 a few months ago - ouch!!)
I loaded it with music for her and was really impressed. When they dropped to £32 I bought one for myself and I love it.I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
I'm not losing my hair... I'm getting more head!!0 -
I would recommend the Zen Stone. My husband has the one with the screen and it is so light and easy to use. You charge it up by plugging it into the usb of your pc or you can buy a charger to plug into the wall. Charge seems to last ages too.0
