Your son's EMA money will have no effect on any of your benefits.

You are fine now, the difference in income will hit when your son is eighteen x

Although the eligibility for EMA is based on parents' income; the money is your son's, intended to help him pay for college expenses that you might not be able to afford. He can also work part time and not lose his EMA.

  • if i remember correctly when my son was going to college after turning 16 i just filled in the bit on the CB form they sent saying it would stop which asked for any other information and they then automatically started it again and back dated it too.

You still get CTC and Child Benefit till he's 19. His EMA doesn't affect you at all. You can also get Council tax benefit (I do) and maybe Housing benefit. WTC isn't affected either.
Remember to tell your son to work hard, my son got a £100 EMA bonus in January!

You can actually now get CTC and CB up to the young person's 20th birthday if they are still in education.
