apologies if this has been raised b4 : Today EDF Energy called and asked me if I would like a new 'Smart' meter installed free of charge, with the backing of the Government. The purpose being that my new meter can be read remotely. the benefit to me is I won't get any estimates and will be able to see the units used, cost of my electricity and daily/weekly overall consumption online making it easier for me to budget... the benefit to EDF is that they don't employ lots of meter readers presumably.
I asked for something in writing but he can't provide anything (odd?) he is calling OH later. I can't see why I would bother with this particularly unless the whole country is doing it and I am the odd one out - has anyone out there got one?

A question to ask them is what would happen if you had this fitted and then some time in the future wanted to change supplier. Would all other suppliers accept this type of meter, ie would they have the means of reading it remotely? (perhaps you should ask this question to the others not to EDF)0
