broken portable DVD players

Hi there, Hope this is the right place for this question....
We have a portable dvd player which players for about 15 - 30 mins then stops, I dont know if its what happens to them generally as two friends have exactly the same problem (different make players though).
On taking it to several small electrial shops have been told that they are classed as 'disposable' goods and they dont repair them!! I really cant afford to buy a new one. any ideas from all you tech minded people?

Maybe have a look and see if its dirty... Make sure all the vents are clear and maybe use an air spray to see if you can clear any dust as it might just be an overheating problem..0
