Hi
Looking for some advice
Have a pc at least 5 years ago.
Its an HP Pavillion 403 uk , intel celeron 1.8, 1.99 gb, 2 harddrives original 40gb and other 80 gb.
Runs Xp pro service pack 2, Symantec antivirus corporate edition.
Anyway my problem is that if i ever turnoff at night or even unplug it when i'm going on holiday, when i next come to use it takes forever to load up.
Longer if its been un plugged.
Basically turn on blue hp invent screen stays for at least 5 mins, bleeps then starts to load 5 mins of black screen, then boots up fine.
Any one got any ideas what problem is
Thanks

if it's taking so long to POST, and especially if it's been off for ages, Is it maybe a corrupt cmos due to the battery being dead?
CR2032 you're looking for, Maplin will have them. £2 or so. Big watch battery looking thing about the size of a 10p.
can you hit escape or tab when the blue HP screen is up to get rid of it and see what's actually going on in the POST?They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
Thanks, will buy one of these.

Was it previously used in a corporate network? You can sometimes get long boot-up delays if it is trying to find a domain controller and failing.0
