Laptop is running reall slow. Have scanned with Avast and nothing coming up apart from one tracking cookie. Have had a look at the processes and there are 50!!! No idea what they are!?!?!?! The highest usage ones are:
Skype.exe 40448k
iexplore.exe 77608k
explorer.exe 17764k
ashServ.exe 16420k
Should I be worried about these?
Skype is obvioulsy Skype - but the others I'm not to sure.
I've checked my add/remove and have no unused programmes on there etc etc.
I thank you in advance for your answers!!

The best thing you can do is check out Black Viper's pages on services
Ashserv is to do with your Anti virus. Explorer and iexplorer are both legit too. You should be able to cut it down to about 35 by following BV's suggestions
If you have your own firewall, ensure that your Windows firewall is turned off0 -
Also - what OS have you got and how much memory do you have? If Windows XP and you have less than 512Mb, you probably need to upgrade.
And if your hard disk is heavily fragmented the laptop will run slow.0 -
Am on Windows XP yes - don't know my memory - not my laptop - its borrowed!! Will try the things suggested. ThanksMade it - 15 years married!! Finally!! xx:beer:0

I prefer using Microsoft's Process Explorer rather than Task Manager; download it from here.
It's more descriptive, in terms of giving the full name and description for a process, along with a manufacturer name. If you're feeling confident, you can even kill processes, without the need to confirm the kill. Handle with care.
