How long does the water in an immersion heated tank stay hot?

My boiler is not working properly at the moment so I'm having to use the immersion heater for hot water. It doesn't have a timer on it and I have to get up very early for work (5:30am :eek:) so there's no way I'm getting up at 4:30 to stick it on for an hour before I have a shower!

If I put it on for an hour between say 9:30 - 10:30 pm does anyone know whether it would still be warm enough for a shower at 5:30? I'm reluctant to test the theory out and wake uo to no heating and a cold shower so was hoping someone might know! If it makes a difference my water tank says it's a 'grade 4'.

The best thing is to buy an electronic or manual timer switch from maplin etc and it will switch on ur heater 1hr before ur shower.

Thanks, I don't think my set up is suitable for a timer switch though as the on/off switch is just like a normal light switch like you would find on the wall to turn the main room lights on.

You should be OK, we all electric on economy 7, our immersion timer is on for about 2 hours finishing at about 6:00, the water is still hot at bedtime. The tank does have a thick layer of foam insulation fitted.

I would've thought that your shower just heats the water as you use it.
