28mm kitchen worktops

Options
This is a probably a long shot I know, but could anybody provide me with any decent sources for 28mm worktops???

I realise they are no longer the standard but my insurance company agreed to fit new worktops following some water damage and they insist on like for like replacement at 28mm, they won't replace the splashback tiles so fitting 28mm saves them stripping and replacing the tiles.

Found a couple of places stocking them but boy the designs are awful, pretty much faced with either white, silver, or black. I can get solid wood worktops at 28mm but thats not like for like either so I doubt insurance company would approve.

Any ideas anyone?

I got a 28mm worktop from here just before christmas, it was a fast delivery and the prices are reasonable too.

As Rl1 says, Howdens do a range including some beige and blue ones, Magnets and B&Q also stock a range. 28 mm is still standard and is used a lot for local authority housing, but there is more of a diverse range in the 40 mm nowdays.
Magnets were doing some a few weeks back for £30

I was thinking of buying my 28mm worktop here when I do it later in the year

as they deliver Howdens materials. I'm thinking of getting the beech stuff. Homebase do stuff which looks much the same, if you can pick it up yourself.

Let me know how you get on when they do it as I'm worried that all my tiles will break if my worktops are replaced.

I tried homebase and they said I had to wait upto 6 weeks for delivery, Howdens do have a good few in stock but nothing with a gloss effect, also you need a trade account for howdens so you can't just pop in and make a single purchase like in B&Q or Homebase.

If you need to replace your existing worktops with minimal damage to your tiles I suggest that you remove the plinth and unwind the feet supporting the base units a little, you can then cut the silicone seal between the worktop and tiles and after removing the screws from the underside of the worktop you should be able to remove the top with out damage. Once the new top has been refitted wind the feet back up and reseal the back edge.

28mm gloss worktops are quite rare, mainly due to the fact that gloss is a fashion finish and not so durable, however bushboard make a range of bathroom worktops called the Nuance collection, with the exception of the woodgrain finishes these 28mm worktops feature a gloss finish, and the P3 coreboard makes them very suitable for use in kitchens.

  • Hi there,

Is there such a thing as 25mm thick worktops?

If so where can I get one?

    I also need a 28mm one.

    Have tried B&Q.

The one at Wickes was extortionately expensive.

Don't really want to spend more than £70 each if possible.

Store must be based in Birmingham / West Midlands.

    Thanks.
