Young person victory over car insurance!

Hi, welcome to my FP :- )
Just last year I left my special protective 'members only' insurance that had done me so well and I insured myself with churchills to protect my no claims (more than being more than overly expensive).
I have 4 years, and go quoted a £445 quote. At 22, this was the best I could find for my 1.3ltr ford fiesta finesse (w reg).
Three days later a ****** decided to run over the top of my car whilst I was in bed. I heard it but as it was dark, didn't catch them or notice the damage till morning.
When I rang up, I suddenly found myself in a world of hurt. My excess was not the 'voluntry' £175, it was £175 + £250 young persons excess. I hadn't seen anything on the website to when I signed up - otherwise I'd had never had gone with them in the first place.
After many months, I got round to sorting this out. I made several letter enquiries and got a response from one written to the MD. I got a number that unfortunately no-one ever answered. After yet more calling, I got through and was rung back the next day. I explained that I felt that age had nothing to do with a malicious damage claim, and that I had been erroneously charged. I was then told this was the way insurance worked and I wasn't going to get a refund. So I spoke to their manager and expressed my concern over age discrimination - it was my point that age has nothing to do with an accident over a parked car.
Next morning, new guy on phone. 'Refund young persons excess? of course sir. Would you like your original excess too? of course sir.'
So out of the £425 I paid out, I got £425 and a fixed car. I call that a result :- )
