Problems opening a HSBC reg saver

My HSBC regular saver has just finished - so I called up to open another one and they wont let me have one!

After a long drawn-out application (including questions as to whether I have debit and credit cards elsewhere??, which i do), the guy on the phone decided to look through my bank statements and claimed I didnt pay my salary in. The balance of my hsbc online saver account clearly shows that I do!

Now, whilst its true my salary does go via another account with another bank, I do pay in more than £1,500/month to hsbc, often more, either by bacs transfer or cheque. I have been shifting both my salary and savings to hsbc via my hsbc current account.

After 10 mins I told him that I get paid by different means, but after short discussion with a supervisor, they had decided I couldnt open one. At which point I said then maybe they could explain the account which had just reached the end of its term.

Any suggestions? Maybe I should apply in branch instead?

lol, they got really arsey when i went into a branch to open a current account in order to open the regular saver. i was asked when i wanted the account and whether i would pay in wages in each month. i told them i wanted to open the current account in order to get the regular saver and did not intend to pay in wages in, was told they probably wouldn't be able to open the current account for me. so i told them i would pay in my wages and was given a form to get it transferred.(have yet to fill it in, ha ha)

same thing happened to my bro when he wanted to open a current account to get £50 quidco cashback, they called him up and kept asking why he wanted the current account, and how it wasn;t necessary to have 2 in this day and age, he kept on and eventually they gave in to him and opened it for him.

is it possible for you to open it online? i think that because it's a good deal they don't want you to have it. definitely try again!
