Help starting out with extension!

Hi Hedger
We have had plans made for an extension too. However, we are not sure if we should move or improve and we have not submitted them to planning yet. We need to compare costs and get quotes from builders, but unfortunately I don't know any and I am not keen to pick one from the yellow pages. Any chance you could give me the names of those that were recommended to you. I would really appreciate that.
Thanks0 -

happymummy24-7, i found this site had helpful guidelines, you mentioned you will be using a boundary wall with your neighbour, never take a verbal agreement because you will regret it one day and this link will help out with any questions on the law and even thou northern ireland laws are murky waters they still very helpful.

Im at a loss for words!!!!!!
Architect was out this morning, straight away we hit a problem.....the angle of the ajoined neighbours ground floor window dictates how far out we can extend......basically nowhere! Also the first floor window causes the same problem. new laws brought in last year have made it inpossible to do this......unless we step the whole build which just isnt an option as it would cost more than its worth gaining.
Unless our neighbours do the same extension at the same time......we cant do it
Gonna talk to them tonight.......they are keen to do something but maybe not as much as we wanted.....ive got a sore head!!!!it takes more energy

Hi again, just thought id resurect this thread because...............we got our planning permission through on new years eve!!!!!:j :j
The above post was nothing to worry about as it turns out and we are getting the size and shape we wanted!!
So next stage for us is builders quotes-we are hoping to clear the site ourselves to cut the cost abit.
How did everyone else get one who were at the same stage as me? I would appreciate any recommendations for builders in the co.down area if you have any!!
Thanks everyone.

my neighbours just had an extensin built. onto side of a 3bd semi. they have added downstair toilet, utility room and family/living room and upstairs 2 bedrooms. it was done from start to finish in about 4 weeks. they worked contantly cleared up in the evening, kept me informed and asked permission if something had to come onto my driveway even an inch. all very pleasant and friendly to me. it was a lot cheaper than i had expected it to cost and looks fantastic from outside and inside. so anyone wants a number pm me and i can pass it on as i got some cards from him as my sister is waiting on planning coming through for an extension0
