    joke?
you already have a router and a pc and a nintendo, as you may have noticed the general consensus is that wep is rubbish, you seem to have 3 choices
    1. use wep on your existing router
    2. buy a usb dongle to use your pcs internet connection (pc needs to be on), leaving wpa enabled on the router
    3. don't connect the ds to the internet.
    in order of security, 3,2,1

Yes it was. It looks like Nintendo messed up a bit when deciding how the DS could connect to a wireless router. You'd think that they would sort it out in some sort of firmware update?

Anyway, thanks for your advice everyone. I'll take it all on board and have a think about what to do.

Sorry for causing a heated debate too...

Heated? If you want heated you should read the Nintendo forum posts on this issue. If only you had bought a Wii!

Alternatively you could just not worry about it. Personally I don't think there's a particularly high chance of a hacker selecting your wireless connection to hack into. WEP is good enough to sotp your neighbour sharing your wireless connectionunless they're a hacker of course.

Why the DS is WEP anyway is beyond me. The Wii is WPA so we made a decision to just use the Wii online and not bother conencting the DS's.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

I fully agree and second BillScarab's comment. WEP is quite adequate for the relatively low risk of such a local hacker.

I utilise WEP in preference to WPA as I find it more reliable and faster to reconnect following e.g. resuming from standby condition for a PC.

I actually had a Wii for a few months at the beginning of last year but I sold it for a 360! As good as it was, I wasn't really impressed with the single player games.
