Hi, He is very very reluctant to ask the docs for a sick note, due to constant refusal last year,he feels the docs think he is just trying to get out of work ,which is so far from the truth ,he is desperate for a job,he is only trained to do manual work, and even recently took a reach or is it counterbalence? forklift truck test,to further chance of a job in a warehouse, but now all are asking for several years or months experience, which he doesnt have, and will never get if no one is willing to employ him .
He is also covered in Psoriasis due to all the stress, what with rent/council tax arrears which he is faithfully trying to clear, and the job centre are pressuring him back to work which doesnt help, but I thought if I ask on here he is more likely to take your advice, as mums advice counts for nothing.
He was very close to my mum and who had a lot to do with bringing him up,he was her first grandchild ,and we lost her in 2003 due to cancer ,and my mum was very old fashioned and strict in her views ,you must never ask for anything ,or scrounge from the state, she couldnt help it because thats how they were brought up,and I am afraid it has rubbed off badly on him,and he will not ask for anything he doesnt think hees entitled tobut if he doesnt listen to me I know he will take your advice on here.
thanks once again for all your help and advice:A0 -
one doctor quoted a note on the wall of surgery," saying the govt are telling me I must get people back to work".
A first GP's duty is the care of their patients, not in meeting/complying with govt "back to work" tragets. He needs to raise his concerns with his GP and or practice manager if this attitude prevails in the surgery.
He may get some advice here...http://www.patients-association.org.uk/Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -
if i may offer an alternative diagnosis; but has Psoriatic arthritis been considered? this can affect the joints in the toes. it may well be worth considering/asking for a second opinion.susiesue

My husband used to suffer badly with Gout and it was ages before he was diagnosed. His bones and joints used to become red and inflamed and when suffering a really bad attack could hardly move. When he was eventually diagnosed he was prescribed Allopurinol. He has to take it daily and it really does help. It does take quite a while before the prescription begins to help to ease Gout, but eventually it should take away some of the pain.
He hasn't had a bad attack in years and I really think a lot of it is down to the medication.
I hope your son gradually improves and manages to find a job.
Good luck0 -
