surround sound speakers ...wireless ??

This techie board never fails in teaching me brilliant stuff .... you've helped me immensely recently learning about using an ipod .

Wonder if someone could give me a quick "masterclass" on surround sound .

Seen adverts and pictures of loads of speakers / towers / boxes .. but wouldn't have a clue !! .. i just remember younger days of horrible wires all over the place .

don't mind spending decent money of a real quality bit of kit ..

recomendations welcome ...

but main question is .... can you get wireless ones .. are they easy to set up and use .. is sound quality good ?? can i use my ipod with them .. and / or cd's .
At the mo i'm just using a bose docking system .. which is very good around the house but fancy some real quality sound for the lounge .

thanks in advance .

thanks

Currently I have 5.1 Altec Lansing which I love very much.
This is the one I have.

If you're planning on just playing music (ie 2 channels) you won't need a surround system and would actually be better off with a nice stereo amp and speakers. If you want the best entry level system, get a Marantz PM6002 (£270), and Monitor Audio Bronze BR2 speakers (£200). You'll be surprised how much better they sound compared to the BOSE. Just make sure you have the right size room and setup to get the best from them.

If you're planning on playing games, and dvd's then it's beneficial. There are wireless systems about (well, with the rear speakers wireless) but they can cost quite a bit more. In the region of £300+ from what I've seen.

The Logitech Z5500's get a lot of praise (especially on AV Forums). I went for a set of LG 902TB's (home cinema in a box system). They've been great, cost me £265. They're not wireless though. The Jamo A102HCS5 for £250 are What Hifi's best for a budget surround speaker package.
