I use https://www.dobies.co.uk
good service, seeds ar good quality, with excellent germination rates and they send plenty of free catologues throught the year which have lots of tips and info in.0 -
I keep being tempted by some plants on the Thomson and Morgan website, but I know that people say they aren't always the best quality. The price is so reasonable, especially when I think of what they would cost from the local nursery
I agree - my local garden centre sells these and so far I've no complaints except on price but that's the reason for this thread - so be able to hunt down the best seeds on price, quality and germination rates - thanks to all responders so far.'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts' : Member number 632

I use alanromans.com The most expensive packets are 80p, most are 50p. The order turns up 48 hours later and the quality if brilliant.
Seeds of Italy are also good but more pricy. You do get a very generous amount of seeds though so it is value for money. It just depends on what you want to growLightbulb moment 2/1/07First Direct £2500 loan

I'd like to grow flowers from seeds - but have no real idea what sort of garden plan I want - it being my first year growing plants - I like the idea of a cottage garden (functional and un-planned with things that can be eaten!) - Any suggestions would be welcome.'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts' : Member number 632

Every July/August Thompson and Morgan have a seed sale mostly flowering plants. I got most of the seeds I'm planting this year from there. I did this before I read the article about seed germination, which was published last September.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

This is an interesting article about flowers you can eat at the BBC.
It includes nasturtium, roses, violas etc...

Yep - I came across this as well - it's what gave me the idea - I like the idea of having everything doing a job - so nasturtiums go high on my list (nice to look at, edible and companion plant/ bug deterant) - not bad.'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts' : Member number 632

I've used Nicky's, as well as some of the companies alredy listed, having success with everything they've sent.

For flowers, Plant World has some fun stuff, if slightly overhyped in the descriptions, and they produce eveything themselves:

For more esoteric, unusual seeds, I've dealt with Chiltern for at least 20 years, who also have a veg section and a very entertaining catalogue:

Personally, I hardly ever buy from garden centres, especially those who place their seed in sunny, warm positions where the packets fade beautifully as the season progresses!0
