Help Me With Office 2000

I have been using Office 2000 for some time and so far have had no probs! 'til now!

1. Excel will not open

2. When it tries to open it says that it is installing - then it says to put in Office 2000 disk - which I do - THEN it goes onto another pop up which says that files are missing so put in winxp home disk - I do this and it says that I have put in the WRONG disk and I have to retry - when I do this it still says it is the wrong disk and at that point all I can do is cancel and give up.

3. My XP disk and my Office disks are both genuine, not dodgy or pirate, and not damaged or scratched - can anyone help me with this problem.

Karin

Are the disks you are putting in the ones that were used to install windows or office with?

I have 2 office 2000 disks and I need to use the correct disk for the installation on that PC there are different disks. the same for windows.

You may need to uninstall office and reinstall it from your CD. office that is not windows.

Just a thought have you installed a new version of Works recently, which has a copy of Word on? It may have messed up the brains inside Office and a re-load may be necessary.

I know I had a laptop with Office Xp and 2003 on and if I tried opening a file by double clicking on it and it was the XP, it came up and said loading. I cancelled it, and then opened the program itself, and then selected the file and it opened OK.

    Hope this helps.

It is during the reinstall that the problems occurred - neither my office 2000 or my xp home disks seem to be acceptable - they are the original disks.

Have you tried uninstalling both? and then just add one (xp would be my choice).

Is there a particular reason why you need to use Office 2000? It is quite an old piece of software now and I don't believe Microsoft do bug fixes for it any more. If you aren't using VB macros in Excel then you might consider switching to the free OpenOffice or StarOffice. The latter comes free with Google Pack. There is little to choose between the two as the come from the same code base, StarOffice is probably more convenient if you are using other Google software as it will be automatically kept up to date. Both have great compatibility with MS Office documents.
