Jargon buster or Glossary?

As a frequent browser and (slowly increasing!) contributor to the site, a suggestion for a useful page / easy access portion of the site.

As I am sure you will agree one of the reasons there are so many paid finance professionals (apart from of course the detailed finance knowledge required!) is the tendency of the financial community to use their own language and acronyms/abbreviations. In fact probably second only to the legal profession.

With this in mind, I spend some time while using the chat forums "google"ing on some of the terms or acronyms to find out what they are. I suggest there could be a need for a jargon buster section of the site, or perhaps a link to others that I'm sure may exist on the web? There are probably two types that would be needed:
  • a dictionary of financial terms
  • an acronym listing (particularly for the chat forum for frequently used terms, e.g. SBT, BTL etc.)
I'm sure with the large community of MSEs out there (oops, there's another acronym!) it shouldn't be too hard to populate and maintain it.

Having it as a clickable link on every page (like the "Home" or "Contact" link) may be useful. Perhaps a survey of users may prove whether this would or wouldn't be useful?

Hope it helps
