I have to disagree- I much prefer them from the microwave, they stay much more moist and taste absolutely delicious IMO:). Spuds are my preferred microwave meal:).
Apart from that I can't help much. As already stated, cooking frozen veg in the microwave is a piece of cake and comes out fine, but it doesn't really make a meal. I have a bit of a phobia of cooking meat (from raw at least) in the microwave. While I'll probably be made to walk the plank from the Old Style board for saying it, some of Tescos 5 for £3.50 range of frozen ready meals are pretty tasty and filling, especially the lasagne.0 -
You can cook almost anything in the microwave. I've even seen my nan cook a joint of beef in one - I think you just put it in a microwavable pot crumble an oxo cube over it, not sure whether you put water in or not (can check if you like), cover & cook. Not sure about timings etc, as it'll probably be different for all microwaves but pretty sure there'll be something on the net somewhere.
I've also cooked chicken breast portions in the microwave - they don't taste quite as nice as grilled but their ok.
Hope this helps.0 -
I hope your move goes well.
Have you got a slow cooker? or could you borrow one from family for ten days or so to help out?
Rice can be cooked int he mocroswave, as can scrambled egg and peas can be cooked too - mix those up and you have egg fried rice????!!!! :eek:r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
Rice and pasta are both exactly the same cooked in a microwave, I add a stock cube to the water when boiling for a bit of extra flavour. You might want to invest in a small george foreman grill, especially if you live on your own. You can cook everything in these but vegetables are especially nice with a bit of rice or pasta.0

we've just moved and only had m-wave, toaster, and kettle to feed family of 5 and survived
- 'nuked' sweet spuds are wonderful, lovely with some cream cheese
- although it doesn't say so on the pack, but cauldron mushroom burgers are fine done in the microwave.
- cook bacon between folded kitchen rolls, eggs on a saucer
- Lidl salmon fillets cook beautifully in 3 mins, serve with broc - cooked in 6 mins.
- in need a quick and filling pud? slice banana in dish pour on readymade custard - warm for 2 mins.

Quorn sausages cook OK in the micro even though they don't say you can do that on the packet.0
