escort 1.6 16v

hi can any body help me as my ford escort 1.6 16v zetec failed its mot on co emisions i was told it cold be any thing silly from a service (eg.air filter as this can block up with s*** and make it fail on emissions) i was also told it could be the lamda sensor so i changed it and i took it bk for a retest and it failed on even more but i was also told it could be the cat or other silly little things like sensors can any one heip me please as im running out of ideas thanx david23 Another thing when they reved my engine up at the mot test centre it smelt of rooten eggs hence the cat

    if it smelled of rotten eggs then its most definatly your cat that is knackered.

    cat sounds past its best

    shop about as you'll find about £80 cheapest

    it'll help to give it an oil change and air filter but if the cats dead its still not goin to fix it

    helps if on the way you keep the revs up to get it hotter and clearer
    (cats are worth up to £50 scrap if still together inside)

    thanx for your post you have been very helpful i have found a site on the net called BUY PART BY AUTO PARTS ONLINE and they have one to fit my car for £37.95+vat and the fitting kit is £3.49+vat thanx again david23:D

    When you replace it, idle your car for a good 10-20 minutes before driving off, and drive for the first few hours with care - no speed bumps, kerbs, potholes etc. This will allow the cat to bond to the walls of the exhaust (from the heat) and will reduce the likelihood of it rattling in the near future.
