Winter Fuel Allowance

Hi

We have bought my Dad's house and live in it with him. He is 84 and has been getting his fuel allowance. I am 60 and my husband is 61. Will my father still get his fuel allowance or will we just get the £200 for my husband and myself.

Thanks
Jackie

Not sure on this one but I would think if you are now the householders the fuel allowance will come to you and it will be £250....... someone with the facts will no doubt be along soon....

there is only one £200 payment per household.

The extra £50 is for this year only not a permanent increase.

As he's the oldest member of the household, I would have thought that one higher rate payment would be made, but am not sure whether it makes a difference that you own the house rather than your father. Why not ring the helpline next week and check.

  • My Mums friend lives with her, and my Mum gets £200 and her friend gets £i00. And any other pensioners that live their would get the £100 payment

This sort of situation, by OP, was mentioned on radio, the allowance is related to oldest person in house, so the over 80 allowance applies

That extra £50 will make quite a difference to us. We use Staywarm and pay a monthly fee of £65.71 which amounts to £788.52. Reducing this by £250 for the allowance, our yearly outlay is £538.52. So in real terms, my outlay will be £44.87 per month for unlimited gas & electricity usage.

  • Thanks everyone. Here's hoping we do get the higher amount, it will certainly help.
