Heavy duty wall fixings?

Hi everyone

I need to hang a heavy wood framed mirror to the chimney breast wall but not sure which would be the best way to go about it to make sure it's safe and secure :o

The wall is constructed of brick and plaster (plaster not fantastic but brickwork is solid) and has recently been wallpapered so need to make a good clean job of it ;)

Mirror has heavy duty metal brackets with triangle-shape swivel hooks attached at each corner. Not sure exactly how much it weighs, but it is heavy!! and measures 150cm wide x 100cm deep.

Any advice on what fixings I need to buy would be most appreciated :A

  • I would use red or brown rawlplugs and screws

I usually use red rawlplugs as I don't hang radiators

    5.5 or 6mm masonary bit
    and screws

    buy some 2" x no8 screws.
you want to drill in slightly longer than the screw (so the rawlplug emebeds in the brick not the plaster)

    Basic procedure
Mark (check for cables, pipes etc and drill - remember goggles etc)
    Use hammer drill
Drill hole after checking things are in the right place (mark once, check, drill)
    Insert rawlplug
    insert screw (through hanging hook)
tap screw in about half an inch (to make it go into the brick-better fixing)
    screw in by hand

    Hope these ramblings help

(it is better for the screw to go through the rawlplug and come out the other side, so slightly longer is better)
    baldly going on...
