Outlook Express Office 2007

On my new Computer I have Outlook Express Office.
I much prefer the Outlook Express 6 I had on my old computer.
Is there a simple way to change back?

There is no "Outlook Express Office"

New computers use Windows Vista, which has "Windows Mail" as its standard email program. Older computers use Windows XP, which has "Outlook Express" as its standard email program. Much as Windows XP has replaced Windows Vista, Windows Mail has replaced Outlook Express. (replaced doesn't necessarily mean "is better than", of course)

If you have bought Microsoft Office, you'd have "Microsoft Office Word", "Excel", etc as a word processor, spreadsheet etc - and the program "Microsoft Office Outlook" as an email program/contact manager/calendar application. Bought before May/June 2007, you'd have "Microsoft Office 2003" and bought after that date, you'd have "Microsoft Office 2007". v2007 replaces v2003, and again, replacing it doesn't necessarily mean improves on it - it depends what you like.

I suspect that you have taken a dislike to Windows Mail, but since that's part of Windows Vista and Outlook Express isn't, you're kind of out of luck.

You could try Mozilla Thunderbird - it's available for free from http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/products/thunderbird/ and is similar to Outlook Express in many ways.

If you don't have Microsoft Office, and therefore don't have a word processor or spreadsheet, you can download OpenOffice from http://www.openoffice.org/ - it is a Microsoft Office compatible suite of applications, and if you're familiar with Word and Excel, you'll pick it up straight away. It is very similar of Office 2003, so many people who dislike Office 2007's new interface are moving to OpenOffice because Office 2003 is no longer available to buy with new PCs.

If you have Thunderbird open, just click the Tools menu and then select Import. You'll be able to import your messages, address book, and if you've not already set them up, the email accounts too.

I'm not sure if Thunderbird can import messages from Windows Vista's "Windows Mail", but it certainly can do Outlook Express's: so if you still have access to your old PC, you could install Thunderbird on there, import everything from Outlook Express, and then copy your Thunderbird profile from one PC to the other.
