We have been in this house a year and have been paying £65 a month since we moved in for both gas and leccy. Just had a letter telling me that the the payments are going up to £155 a month! £90 rise.
We have 5 radiators in the house (3 bed semi [only one double radiator]) but one dosent work. We do have a back boiler so i know thats not as economical as a combi. We are a family of 6, me Dh and 4 kids under 6. We only go in the bath every other day and the kids tend to share the water with a top up of hot for the eldest.
What should i do, i cant afford to pay that each month. I have rung them and they say it's right. I have a feeling maybe our boilers faulty or something as the radiators arn't even on all day, only on timer unless really cold!.

Do you know your exact usage, Cherry. National average is 22,000 kwh which at the lowest tariff is nearly £600 a year, and electric average is 3300 at, say, 10p equals..£330 so coming up to £1000 a year.
You must be paying off a built up debt.0 -
As Ken above states the average household spends £1,000 a year on gas and electricity.
You are a family of 6 with an old boiler and have been paying £780 a year. So it is almost certain that you have built up quite a large debt which NPower are getting you to pay back.
Also they now have an idea how much you use in the year, so can be more accurate in their estimate of what the correct monthly bill will be.
After you have paid off your debit balance, your DD payment will reduce; but not to £65 - probably around £100.
Look at your bills to see how much debt you have.0 -
Our payment with NPower just went up from £42 (gas and el) to £130, partly to pay off £500 debt we have built up over the last 6 months (since last bill).. The £130 is worked out as the average over the last 6 month and 12 next month (I think).. This is for a 4 bed..
Yes, gas/el is getting REALLY expensive...0
