I have changed the power cable and it worked fine for a few days but is playing up again.

sounds like it could be a dry joint or loose connection inside the monitor..

Sorry but your description is poor, "when i start my pc the green power light comes on but the screen goes blank", do you mean the light on the pc OR the screen?

It sounds like the screen refresh rate is not set, possibly too high. Is this a replacement screen?

Let us know a little more info. so we can all help you out.

sorry if i have not described my problem to clear,.
The green light i mentioned is the one on the monitor , the on off button i have to put on/off is the one for the monitor not the pc. The monitor is 2 yrs old. as i said once i have managed to type in my password the monitor works fine but until iget my password in i have to flick the monitor on and of a few times and watch were the cursur is to allow me to type in on the next on/off sequence.
hope this clears up my problem and you can help me further.
    thanks
  • Ok, thanks does the monitor's green light turn yellow? The monitor has a fault locking onto output from the pc. CRT monitors are available from freecycle for free. Can you locate another monitor for a test? Have you changed the video settings on the pc? Have you replaced the video drivers? If NO then monitor has a small fault. If you "see" the startup messages displayed prior to Windows start up screen and "see" the bios settings screen, then it is more likely that the monitor refresh rate on the pc has been changed by someone/something. Go into safe mode (F8) and reset the refresh rate to 72hz rather than 100hz that your monitor can cope with then all will be ok.
  • the green power light stays on but screen goes blank, it is not a crt monitor but a flat screen set at 65hz the other setting available is 75 hz i think
    thanks

Does it do it in safe mode? If you pull the VGA cable out, do you get a no signal message
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
  • 1) Have you changed the video settings on the pc?

    2) Have you replaced the video drivers for the flat screen or are you using the old crt drivers, (I think you said/mean the flat screen is two yrs old)

    3) Do you "see" the startup messages displayed prior to Windows start up screen and "see" the bios settings screen?

Still think the monitor is dodgy in that the backlight is failing to start correctly, can you swop it out?
  • yep when i pull vga cable out no signal message appears, safe mode not sure never tried(dont now how )
  • total solutions
    1) no
    2) no screen came with system as a package
    3) yes for the short second i see the screen before it goes blank i see the normal start up procedure

    thanks:confused:
