Mossy, you can buy a 'guide' credit score from any of the credit reference agencies for about a fiver, but these are only guides and are just based on your credit report information with that agency. Lenders use their own scoring systems which also take account of the information on your credit application form. So you don't have a single credit score (or magic number!).

Once you close a credit account, the agencies' files should reflect this in 4-6 weeks. Settled accounts are kept on your report for 6 years from the settlement date.

    Thanks James :A

I don't think I'll bother with finding out my number especially as like you say its just a guide...I'm interested but not five gold sovereigns interested :p

I've got quite a lot of credit accounts (mainly old mail order type catalogue companies and some from companies who I've never heard of (trading names?) lots of letter writing for me this week I think.

There are also a few old credit cards which I'm sure I cancelled, they are showing as £0 and show the settlement dates (a few years ago) and the credit limit I had for each card. Now I presume that as they aren't showing as closed or D (The account is not being used-no amount is owed), that means that they are potentially using up my credit limit (if you know what I mean). Surely as I've already closed the cards they should be showing as closed. sorry if I'm being dense.

Also (now I know I'm going to sound thick) things stay on your record six years from when they finished....so if I've got say a catalogue account which is showing a date satisfied of 7/3/2000 does that mean that in March this year it will dissappear from my records???? (p.s its not showing it as closed but does show the status as settled).

Thank you in advance...you peeps are soooo wonderful...oh how I love this site. :T :D :A

That seems a bit strange as I've got lots of old companies and stuff on my records (24 to be precise  )....I bet any companies that have refused me credit is because they've started reading and got bored so just said NO lol.

Have you tried emailing/phoning them??? If you've signed up for the 30 day trial couldn't they just send you a copy of it??

Also have you tried the 30 day trial from Equifax?? I know they can hold different information but my reports from both Experian and Equifax are very similar.

If you can't get your report via the free trial route maybe you'll have to pay £2 for them to send you the report the normal way....how rude lol  (still at least £2 isn't too bad really).

Do they have a cooling off period you can use to cancel it? Have you used the service and looked at your details yet? Best bet would be to email or phone them and explain that you wanted to try it out (at the £14.95) to see if it met your needs and have accidentally signed up for the year? Hope you get it sorted.

Still have a few questions that have probably got lost in all my chat

I have old credit accounts (catalogues/credit cards) most of which I have closed a few years ago. Most of those are showing as settled....does that mean the same as closed?

Also warning....stupid question coming up....I have an account showing as settled last date was 6/3/00 does that mean it will come off my records March this year??? (I think it does but wanted to check).

    thanks in advance ;)
