What am I saving?

Hi all, I am finally taking this money saving lark very seriously and have just signed up for 18185 (thanks to advice on this site) to deal with the copious mobile, 0870 and 0845 numbers I make. I want to work out what I am actually going to be saving based on a minimum of £100 per quarter that I currently spend on landline to moible calls. But, I am getting different answers from BT customer service, when I ask what mobile calls, over a 2 minute period are costing me, based on my Option 3 package (there's some sort of discount for mobiles built into this).

I was told by BT person 1 that my mobile phone calls with my discount included in option 3 cost 6p to connect + 9p for the first minute, followed by 9p for the 2nd minute and thereafter. i.e the cost of a 2 minute call would be 6p+9p+9p= 24p.

The second person I spoke to told me that these calls are costing me 6p for the connection + 9p for the 1st minute, followed by 12.5p the second minute, and thereafter. i.e. a 2 minute call is 6p + 9p +12.5 = 27.5p

I had a look at a pdf I found on the BT web site and could not make head or tail of it. Really confusing. (18185 info seems sooooo simple in comparison :T )

So does anyone know what the cost of a 2 minute mobile call during the day, on Option 3 costs? And if anyone is good at maths, how much am I likely to save over a quarter by using 18185, if the average call is say, 5 mins? So, I can put the money into a jar towards a holiday or that new sofa that would fit perfectly in my sitting room. :D

many thanks

ps I did do a search to see if I could find the info on this site, but couldn't see anything.

I'd say that, if your average call to a UK mobile is 5 minutes, you would be better off using Primus Saver Option 2 CPS / Penny Mobile 2 - and paying a flat rate 20p for a call of up to 20 minutes.

BTW, 18185 is not always cheaper for 0845/0870 calls - BT sometimes is! See HERE.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Thanks Heinz. Yeah, I had seen that 0870/0845 calls were cheaper on Wk/ends & eves, but I mainly call these numbers during the working week, so even tho' it's only about a penny saving per call, it all adds up :j .

I'll investigate primus in more detail. I do, however think I get some value from Option 3 because I make so many 01/02/03 calls, which are free (other than the cost of the option 3 service). I also need a personally recorded 1571 service and be able to access voice mail from any phone.

p.s just realised that it was your helpful information (from your click here) that I printed off, that got me going onto 18185 in the first place..... so doubly thank you for that too!
