Flogas and Direct Debit
Hi all
I'm wondering if anyone has some advice for me. I've moved into a rented property supplied by Flogas LPG, and have set up an account with them. I have indicated on their form that I wish to pay by cheque, but they are saying that I have to fill in a direct debit form as well.
I do not agree with this and am wondering if a company is allowed to do this? Surely a consumer can choose to pay by any other method?
I hope you can help clear this up and I've looked everywhere and not found an answer!
Many thanks!

Welcome to the forum.
Any company can insist on which method of payment they wish you to make. Your choice is to deal with the company or not!
The company have no meaningful record of who you are, and you are in rented accomodation.
They will deliver LPG that costs £hundreds and you give them a cheque that 'bounces'. It can take months to recover that money, and be impossible if you do a 'moonlight flit'. (obviously I am not impying that you would - but many people make a habit of renting accomodation and leaving after a few months with a trail of debts)
A Direct Debit at least shows them that you are who you say you are, and you have a genuine bank account.
I assume with a Direct Debit they will take the money before delivery, or you could just cancel the DD???? Or is it with a Credit Card.
You might be able to make an agreement with them to pay by cheque well in advance of delivery(so the cheque clears)0 -
Thanks Cardew, I appreciate your time to respond! Yes, I've written to them offering either a cheque in advance or cash on delivery, surely they should see it's fair that way.
Anyway, many thanks!
