Bank of Scotland - Disappearing Debit Debit

I recently, within the last month, set up a new Direct Debit with my mortgage company. This was duly set up and over the last two weeks it has been listed with my other DD's and I could view it via online banking. I have logged on each day this week and the payment, due to be applied on the 10th March, has not been collected. I contacted the mortgage company who stated that when they asked for the monies my bank, Bank of Scotland, told them it was cancelled. I then logged onto my account and mysteriously the DD is no longer listed.
I queried this with the bank, for over one hour, only to be told the DD had never existed and a payment had never been asked for!
I am not going daft, each day this week I have checked online and the DD was listed amongst the others on my account. All of a sudden it has disappeared and I am being told it was never there in the first place.
Anyone else had this happen to them ?

not had this happen to me, however, do you already have a DD set up with the same details on your account?

Strange question, but it is possible that their systems are rejecting the new DD because you already have one there.

I cannot remember the way around this problem though, but it does involve resetting of the details (either by the originator or BOS or both)
  • Thanks for your reply gazebo.

This was a brand new DD mandate as my mortgage has changed companies so there was no duplication of details, just one day the DD details were there and the next they were gone.

Both the bank and the mortgage company are blaming eah other but I really cannot understand the banks attitude that it was never showing on my account. Only wish I had the foresight to print the page but as I have never had this problem before so I didn't give it a thought.

The mortgage people say they requested payment, the bank say they didn't and the bank denies the DD existed. Maybe I've just got a vivid imagination.

Got to wait 'til Monday now to sort things out.

I believe you, because it does happen.

The problem is that I think the BOS are correct in saying it didn't exist because it is possible that the mortgage company system have not correctly initiated the payment or DD correctly.

If this is the case it won't actually have been held on your account correctly, although you will have been able to see the details.

I hope you get this sorted out though.
