Hi Kimberley,
We've had one for a few months now and they are fine. Bit of a nuisance when you just want to set up a payment but they are perfectly straightforward. Just remember to have all your bits of paper to hand for the pin no etc. The website also guides you through it.
Best wishes

I've been using mine for months! They're pretty simple to use, just follow the on screen instructions.0

Do i have to use it?0

Yes, for activating payments etc online. It really is a very simple bit of kit.0

I recently ditched my NatWest account because of this reader. I didn't ask for it and in all honesty have no reason to want to use it
They use 128 bit encryption via https at online banking and I have a very secure password, theirs more thance someone using my card/pin with 4 numbers only than using a multiple character password on my online banking so to me it's an over exaguration I refuse to comply withProudly Banking & Saving With:

The idea is you keep your card (with chip: magstripe cloning won't work) and preferably the reader somewhere safe and that only you know the pin. So long as you don't go around giving your card to random people while shouting your pin out and telling them where your reader is, I can't see a problemNot to mention, as the reader system requires you to have the physical card itself to log on, rather than just a password that someone could read over your shoulder or even keylog from your computer, it's that much more secure.
FYI, if you want an account without the readers, avoid Nationwide, Barclays, Lloyds TSB and NatWest at the minimum. They're all rolling them out.0 -
As I have seen a very noticeable lack of news reports of customers complaining of illegal use of their online banking but, see plenty of the card and pin illegal use with a chip and pin then in all honesty this is just scare mongering I see no facts and or figures to justify such a system that requires the extra effort.
