Advice needed please

Hi all, A bit of advice needed please,
Bought a item on the 29th February, payed striaght away with paypal, Item states 1-2 days recorded delivery.
Received email stating item has been shipped on the 1st of March.
Thursday 6th March I email him stating that i've not received the item yet and that his page does state its 1-2 recorded.
Friday 7th March he emails me saying "item has been posted should be with you today mate"
Monday 10th March still no item so I email him again but he has yet to reply
Today still no item so i've emailed him again stating that I need the item for next friday as its a present and it is.
What shall I do next? never had nothing turn up yet.

start a dispute item not recieved
Not suire how long you have and he might have to wait a while longer to claim from Royal Mail if its got lost in post
