Fish skin!!

Options
I bought some salmon from Morrisons today and asked for them to remove the skin. She weighed and priced the fish before removing the skin.

Now I know they only did what I would have done (cut it off and throw it away), but I was a bit narked that she didn't weigh it once the skin was off.

Oh well.

But you were actually buying a skin on fillet which might be priced differently to a skinless fillet.

I know that skin on chicken fillets are less expensive than the skinless ones.

That's a bit strange, my Morrison's weighs the cheese after the wax has been removed (edam, gouda etc), and you'd think it would be the same for the fish?
At least it saved you the job at home - I always cut myself skinning fish. lol

Well for a start their wholesale costs will be the same whether you want the skin off or on so I don't see why your expecting a discount. Also they have done some slight preparation for your food, for free.

The things people moan about these days.

But the wax on a cheese isn't part of the cheese, it is protective packaging.

The skin on a fish is part of the fish.

Go a few steps further backwards:

You see a whole salmon on the fish counter in Morrissons for £1 per pound.

You ask them to gut, bone, fillet and skin it for you.

    Do you expect them to:

    a) Do this, throw the bones, guts, head, tail and skin away and then weigh what is left, charging you £1 per pound ?
    b) Weigh the whole fish, do what you asked and then bag up the fillets and charge you £1/lb for the whole fish ?
    c) Do what you ask, weigh the fillets and charge you their normal price of £4 per pound for skinless, boneless fillets ?
    d) tell you to choose some fillets and buy them ?
    e) tell you to leave the store immediately and never come back ?

Clue: 'a)' and 'b)' are the WRONG answers!

You wanted to buy buy salman - that happened to have skin on it, but decided that you didnt want the skin.

Not sure what the issue is.

I mean, how heavy could the skin be?

as said you paid for the salmon as displayed
the skin was removed as a free service to you.
you would be moaning more if they charged for the skiining ;)

I't also occurred to me that if someone wants a discount because something is removed then thats like assuming the item removed still has some value. Basically it's like saying "I can have money off because you can still sell that". Who on earth would go into a supermarket and buy some fish skin!
