Domestic & General £54.90 Bosch washing machine offer

Beware of extended warranties. I have a policy with Domestic & General. I have had a Bosch washing machine for 7 years, I have being paying their expensive annual cover since their original policy ran out, this year the premium was just under £89. This was by instalment, so only half the premium has been paid. The washing machine stopped working and an engineer came to fix it, he rang D & G who said it was beyond economic repair. They have offered me £50.90 as compensation, this was to be used with their supplier who price for a replacement machine was over £60 more expensive than a supplier on the internet. They have relented and are going to send me the miserly cheque, but I think the offer is absolutely appalling, My advice to anyone is to check with D & G and ask what they would pay if they had to replace any appliance. I personally would never use them again, I will not be renewing the outstanding policy have with them.

I have yet to see any 'extended warranty' which is better than putting the same money into a high interest building society account as a 'nest egg' in case of breakdown.
I came unstuck years ago - when I wanted to claim, the firm had 'gone into receivership' (a euphamism for changed its name to avoid its debts).Their - possessive pronoun (owned by them e.g. "They locked their car").
They're - colloquial/abbreviated version of 'They are'
There - noun (location other than here e.g. "You can buy groceries there") OR adverb (in or at that place e.g. "They have lived there for years") OR adverb (to or towards that place e.g. "Go there at noon") OR adverb (in that matter e.g. " I agree with you there").0 -
Sorry I disagree, I have a Zanussi washing machine, flippin thing is always breaking down, on first name terms with repair man, thats how bad it's got. Soooo glad I had the extended warranty, more than got my monies worth. Each time D&G say repair it, repair man was really confused the last time cos the repair bill was more than a new machine. But my policy is new for old, so if next time (Soon I assume!!) the repair man comes, he is refusing to repair it again and says it will be a new machine. Fine by me!!
I think there is a point here though...don't buy Zanussi!

I always take out a 5 year extra guarantee with my larger appliances and luckily i had about 3 months left on my dishwasher one and they replaced it with another top of the range machine. At the time, almost 5 years ago we had the top one then which cost us £329 and they replaced with the top spec now which sells for £369-£399. I wouldnt ever extend the guarantee beyond the 5 year term though as it states in the guarantee that they only pay out a certain percentage over the 5 year age depending how old it is. I have just replaced my washer which was £399 (paid £249 on offer) and before it even gets delivered i get a quote and paid £169 for the 5 year cover. How i see it is i then know i have 5 years usage of a washer without anymore outlay,
The other thing i like about D&G's cover is that if you take the cover out from day one you are covered against accidental damage. Like my Whirlpool tall fridge, i paid £46 for full 5 year cover and we snapped the handle off so they sent the whirpool man out to replace it for free. The actual cost though if we would have paid was, wait for it!! £74. Ridiculous i know as the handle cost is just £6, the rest is callout. I do ike the peace of mind though in knowing if anything costly goes wrong then its covered.0 -

ive had 4 black rubber bands break but its not covered under the warrenty, apparently its wear and tear...
sounds stupid.. i mean i can "accidently" throw my hoover down the stairs and gettit replaced but not a stupid small rubber band (which costs £10 for 2)Named after my cat, picture coming shortly0
