Travelling From London to Norwich

Me and my partner are looking to travel from London (any station) to Norwich at the beginiing of June. We're considering going by coach as it's about £34 for the both of us (National Express), which we think is about the cheapest we're going to get, does anybody know if we could possibly get anything cheaper anywhere else, either by rail or coach? The cheapest rail fares we can find are about £80 for both of us at the moment. We'd prefer rail, as the coach journey times are so long, but the price difference is too much.

Yes - you will get it a lot cheaper by rail by waiting until the advance purchase fares are released. Potentually £6 single per person.

Even a couple of weeks ahead (1 April) that fare is widely available on off-peak trains

It could well be a month or more before you can book the cheap fares. Don't believe the 'exactly 12 weeks' nonsense that is sometime peddled.

If there are fun fares on the route National Express could also be cheaper than you have quoted - these also don't come out that far ahead of the journey date. I can't find any in May yet for example

Thanks for your advice. We're in no rush to book, so will check out what fares we can get nearer the time. :D

Just tried this, so I know it works. Go to the Nationalexpress rail site (was onerailway). Complete the details re journey and it comes up with £41 for a return ticket. But, click the `2 singles may be cheaper` link and the tickets are then £6 each way (for the dates I tried anyway). You get reserved seats included in the price. The £6 tickets go pretty quick, so I would advise buying now to be sure.
