Accessing online banks on holiday

Options
Is it ok to access my online bank from another computer whilst on holiday. I'm away for ten days but I want to check if a credit has been received and I'll be on a cruise ship in UK waters with an internet cafe on board, or is it safer to wait till I get home.

I've done it all the time when I'm away. No real problem. However what I would do once I've ended my session is to clear the internet cache. Also double check no-one is watching you when you type in log-in information.

Won't the cost of internet from a cruise ship be very expensive?

Could you explain further please pin. Is it the same as deleting "temporary internet files?"

yes, could you expalin how to do this. I know how to do this on my 'puter but not on a network such as on board a ship. As to the costs, yes, it is quite expensive, but one of my "perks" as a regular cruiser is free internet access.

When I do it, it just is a case of going into the internet explorer settings and deleting the history and the temporary internet files. Never had a problem doing that in any internet cafe i've been to.

Nationwide: Using public PCs such as Internet Cafes
Using public PCs such as Internet Cafes

PCs in public places such as Internet Cafes may harbour viruses or other means to trap your keystrokes. Thus there is a risk that your pass number and confidential information could be compromised and used for malicious purposes. When using Internet Cafes, there are a few things you should be aware of:
    • Ensure that no one is looking over your shoulder
    • Only use PCs located in reputable establishments
Maybe I am over-cautious, but even in my office I avoid using keyboard during log-in. Usually I copy&paste data disguised in some .doc or .txt file instead.

most bank logons are smart enough that they only ask you for incomplete information so your details can't be compromised even if there is a virus on your machine. The exeption in my portfolio is Egg, although they use drop down boxes for dates which mean that a keystroke recording virun can't tell what date you enter.

Most banks indemnify you against fraudulent use of your account too.

Log onto your own bank site and check their security advise I guess and check on their fraud policy - you should be fine though.

Another way is to simply call your bank to confirm the credit.

When MrJudi and i am on holiday he always takes his laptop with him and we connect it to his mobi phone and it acts like a modem. Its not cheap to do it this way, but it protects against fraud and we can move our money from one account to another.
