Flatscreen "portable" TV for bedroom?

Mum and Dad are looking to get a portable TV for the bedroom but we're all a bit confused as to what's best.

Mum wants a flatscreen as it takes up less space, but I think maybe the picture won't be as good as an old fashioned TV. She has senn a Technika (?) in Tescos that "looks good"....

They don't want to spend a fortune and don't need bells and whistles, just a 2nd TV.

Any advice?

PS I did search "flatscreen" on the forum but the threads were very technical or about computer monitors

Samsung LCD panel in various colours in different sizes for the space saving aspect for me. If its to look good just place a family photo on the wall:-))

I bought a neat 19" TV and it had freeview and a DVD built in, but the sound was awful and it had no output to connect a sound system...sent it back 'cos I just couldn't stand the tone.
Make sure you hear the TV before you buy.

I want the same thing and did see something in the paper the other day I think it was Curry's. The price wasn't too bad, around £300 ++ I already have a small TV on the wall but am getting fed up with the wires and the digibox.. Can't you jsut Google for "small flat screen TVs" and see what comes up. And, you could possible buy it through one of the discount places recommended on here like Quidco.

No digital, but sweet telly. Buy a £15TV sender or a £10 freeview, jobs a good 'un.

You are quite correct. Poor sound is an unfortunate 'feature' of many cheap LCD tellys. The cabinets simply aren't big enough to recreate the bass end of the sound spectrum.....it's all down to physics 'innit!

  • cheap LCDs are rubbish - they've got low contrast ratios and things look washed out.

I've got this in my bedroom: http://www.dixons.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/190052/?int=hp-top5-wh1-LG-19LS4D

It's got a 3000:1 contrast ratio and the picture quality is amazing, possibly better than my 32" Phillips LCD in my lounge.

There are some good Sony's that get excellent reviews, they are the smaller models (20" or less I think) that come in various coloured bezels to match decor. Gadget Show on Five gave them a best buy award a few months ago, and other press reports have been equally flattering. Have a look in the back of home cinema/TV hardware magazines in the newsagents.
