I've used Natwest Step for almost four years now, having previously been with Lloyds and Yorkshire. I have to say that everything from Natwests branches, to their telephone service and their online services are all top-notch. I've never had any bad experiences with NW.... unlike either Lloyds or Yorkie.0

Well, Yorkshire will give you a Maestro (formally Switch) card, rather than a Solo card from NatWest.
NatWest's internet banking is more user-friendly than Yorkshire's.
I would suggest the Readycash.NoMoreDenial wrote: »Hi,

I have had the Yorkshire Bank's readycash for almost 2 years and a few month's later they sent me a cheque book! The customer service advisor (who opened my account) was really nice and didn't make me feel I was a criminal (I'm discharged from bankruptcy) unlike LTSB's fiasco yesterday. She did all my details on the computer and then said she'd have to do a manual check with a credit reference agency. It was Experian, it was to confirm I was discharged, if you just have defaults not so much a problem!
Their internet site is easy to use and they have a UK call centre, ran in Scotland, they have always been really pleasant to deal with. My only thing now, cos I have moved, I do have a way to get to my nearest branch.
You get a proper Maesto card too, rather than a Solo card with NatWest.

Thanks for the replys.
Made an appointment this morning for lunchtime. The lady was very nice. I was honest about why i wanted a basic account (i'm on a DMP) she was very understanding and said this account would be just fine for me,no credit check, just a check about bankrupcy. It took 20mins.I provided my provisional license as ID and walked out with an account number.
I still wanted to open the Natwest step account as well to see which internet i liked best (and I like the fact that Natwest is open Saturday morns until like my Yorkshire branch) unfortunately they only accept provisional licenses for ages 20 and below.I'm 25. I have no valid passport. So that's the end of my Natwest account for the mo.Will have to get in touch with the tax office to send me something in writing about my tax code as they will accept that as ID.
Still really pleased it was so easy. I hope i won't regret changing.0
