Please Help! My insurance company botched job and now saying i am not covered!

My chimney and roof were storm damaged and Halifax insurance sent a company called EBL to make repairs, it took a long time for the company to come out to me, and i had booked to go away to visit family when they wanted to come. i was told that if they couldn't come while i was away that i would have to wait as they were busy and fully booked up, so i agreed. when i got back everything appeared to be ok, but as the weather grew colder and i used the fire in the living room, over the period of about a month, i noticed that the walls were getting darker, and when i took a cloth to wipe the wall, i realised that there was a very fine layer of soot on the walls. I contacted my insurance company and EBL came out and fitted a cowl to the chimney. EBL are saying that the original work dislodged soot in the chimney and is part of the original claim. the insurance company believe that the chimney had been blocked by EBL. Luckily my living room door does not close properly otherwise i could have become ill. My Insurance company are saying that unless EBL agree they are to blame, because i wasn't covered for accidental damage i am not covered for the damage that has occurred in my living room and hallway. It was my insurance company who sent out the firm , are they not responsible for what has happened ? can you please advise me.
