E:21/12/05 Play the Lottery for free!!

This is an interesting topic -
I was under the impression that the reason companies must provide a 'no purchase necessary' clause, was so that buying the product could not be classed as gambling.
As the promotion is effectively giving away a free gambling ticket (with T&Cs attached), would the company be entitled to NOT provide a no purchase necessary clause?
Also, if they are giving away a lottery ticket for free, would that then mean it is NOT classed as gambling - and therefore just a large-scale prize draw? Would it then be legal for an under 16 to enter?
Just my mid-afternoon ramblings!0 -
Interesting comment about under 16's being able to play. Personally my opinion is that the national lottery could not allow someone under 16 to win, albeit I could be wrong - it's a bit of a grey area!
As for the No Purchase Necessary clause, I believe this legally has to be included because the only other way of getting a ticket is dialling their services (and therefore effectively making a transaction with them - you have to pay for their service, in a roundabout way).0 -

Can't see one on first glance at the T&Cs...
Cheers,
I tried replying to the e-mail they sent with the activation code... bounced back. I then did a little digging and found that they are a subsidiary of www.118.com. Both sites have references to the promoter of this offer, Conduit Enterprises, so I sent an e-mail to customer services at 118.com - no reply as yet. I'll post back if I get anywhere with this.
To be honest, I'm a little annoyed with myself. I normally see these things coming. I've re-read the T&Cs, though, and I'm convinced that the only reference to using peoples details for marketing is in clause 18, which refers only to people who claim a prize. Anyone reading it differently?0 -

"9.2 Claimants whose Numbers match three numbers in the relevant Draw will not receive the standard National Lottery prize for matching three numbers.
Instead, all winnings generated by valid claimants in this promotion who matched three numbers will be combined by the promoter into a prize pool." (Thanks to blindman for posting the terms and conditions earlier in the thread.)0 -
Thanks Hicksy lets hope one of us money savers comes up with the goods0

I cannot login now using the login ID they sent, there is nowhere to contact them and the email which they sent with my security code sends it back if you try to reply.0

Not sure exactly what you mean here. Are you trying to log in to your account using your e-mail and the keycode sent by e-mail, or check your numbers using your mobile number and ID code sent to your phone?borntoshop wrote:I cannot login now using the login ID they sent, there is nowhere to contact them and the email which they sent with my security code sends it back if you try to reply.
*EDIT*: I just noticed that the "claims hotline" number is shown on the front page of the site. It's a freephone number, so I suggest anyone who is thinking of making a claim, and is worried about their privacy, make a claim by phone so that they can request their details are not passed on.0 -
Just to let you all know, I actually did get 3 numbers last night. Basically the process is, if you get three numbers rather than split the money into £10s or whatever, you get entered into a prize draw for £1,500...So wish me luck!0
