American Adventure?? Dont bother!

Have been to American Adventure today on a coach trip and I have to say how disappointed we were.
We last visted this place about 13/14 years ago and weren't particularly impressed then but thought after such a time lapse thought things would have improved.
Well they haven't!!
Half the park wasnt even open due to "improvements"
The big roller coaster was shut
The log flume was shut
Fort play and climbing area was shut!
Only good thing about it was there wasnt any queues as not many people there. I wonder why??
If I had paid full price I would have complained but as we were on a coach Im assuming we got a party discount and it it would be up to organiser to complain.
The park isnt bad for smaller children but as mine are 10 and 12 there wasnt an awful lot for them to go on and we found we were filling time.
So my advise if anybody has trips booked? Ask at paying desk if ALL rides are in operation and suggest a refund if half is shut like it was today.

Aw shame! I too went to the American Adventure park about 14 years ago, and thought it was great fun. I was going to go this month with my sons, but am having second thoughts about it now after reading your post. I have money off voucher and sons are 10 and 6. Do you think I should ring first to check what is on offer?keep smiling,

I would try Alton Towers That really is the best theme park this country has to offer0

I went a couple of years ago and thought it was good. I was the opposite - disappointed with Alton Towers - it was not as big as I had expected and if you don't like rollercoasters there is not much left!
Maybe I have been spoilt after visiting several in the states and elsewhere!
Personally I beleive AA had a wide range of things to do compared to the Tussuads Group attractions.0 -
used to go regularly when my son was younger, but been about 3 years since last visit
I don't think there's been much investment in recent years, but some of the rides were very good ( log flume / rocket / Aliens )
also they had a fun Go -kart track( extra fee), and a few cowboy themed shows
Usually loads of discount options
OK not as slick as A Towers, but I feel had a nice "family feel"
Best to go on a warm day, as the wind picks up over the lakeAny posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -

sorry to hear you did not have a good time.. to travel and spend and then it be rubbish through no fault of your own is pants!!!!
I'm about 20 mins drive from alton towers so use it every year for the firework display.. if you go and are not into rides then go when they do the fireworks...fantastic! I have thought about the american adventure but the other week had some vouchers for drayton manor(staffordshire) and was very, very impressed.. we have a 13, 4 and 3 year old so at alton towers everything is so far apart we split and meet up through out the day but drayton was great everything mixed up and very close to one another... ice creams and drinks were very reasonable.. not like towers and the rides were great everyone had a brill time.0 -
Yeah my parents and brother have been to Dayton manor and said how good it was..........Im not keen on Alron towers as you seem to spend a lot of your time in queues.Make £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... March... £65......April...£90.....May £20.....June £35.......July £600

We love Drayton Manor Park and once the kids get tired of the rides they can go around the zoo which is good. We were there about 4 weeks ago and they had a birds of prey show. They had all the kids (who volunteered) to lie on the grass and an owl swooped over them - kids thought it was fab. Value for money it is great. Although it does not have the huge thrill rides as Alton Towers you dont have to walk for miles as its very compact and theres a great overall selection of rides from tots to teens.0

If you can get a good offer on the hotel you don't have to queue.. you just go to the front and join the vip queue, however even being down the rd, would not bother unless it's for them fireworks.0
