Child Benefit today?

I am confused (doesn't take much!) - why has Monday's CB been paid today? Monday isn't a bank holiday is it?

I got my CB and CTC today. It normally comes on a monday. I've found they just do that every now and again.
  • The money is released to your bank 3/4 days before it is due and sometimes the banks release the money early. Same with Tax Credits.

Are you both with the same bank?

The reason will be that it is a bank holiday next Fri & the following Mon, and all benefits/credits payments are advanced to ensure that those due over Easter are paid just before.
To do this, DWP/HMRC also need to pay you sooner. This process happens every 'long break', usually only Easter and Christmas/New Year, and not the single days ie Spring Bank etc.

Easter is also early and just before the end of the tax year so lots of benefits will be paid in early to keep things simpler for them

  • Yeah this is correct, all payments due in to accounts for Monday should be realeased early (Today).
I totally forgot about this this morning when I replied, only remembered when I got to work and got a call about it!

Read in my local paper a few days ago that child benefit and ctc will have been paid early because dwp including income support, child benefit and ctc is on strike monday and tuesday, its not just child benefit/ctc thats been paid early other benefits that are affected by the 48 hour strike has also been paid early. It was the same as the strike in Decemeber where everyone got paid early cos of the 48 hour strike then.

If it is defo the same as Decembers strike people who get paid Tuesday will get paid tomorrow (i know its saturday but it still shows on bank balances and will clear Monday).

Not sure whats going to happen about payments due around easter tho as DWP will only have Wednesday and Thursday to send the payments thru and as sunsonic said it takes 3- 4 days for payments to be released into your bank account and as its bank holiday Friday & Monday i think there maybe late payments (or very early payments).

    hope this helps

  • Easter payments will be early - for Tax Credits anyway. (Not sure about anything else)TCO always try to issue payments early so people arent suffering financially. However it is a pain in the backside when people call up on the due date to complain they didnt get their payment "today". Then complain that they spent the money that went in early as they didnt realise it was their Tax Credit payment in early! Well if you get extra money DONT SPEND IT unless you know where it is from.

Monday 17th March is St Patricks day and so a Bank Holiday in Northern Ireland.

Monday 24th and Tuesday 25th March are the Easter Bank Holidays so the payments will be made early for those days too.

(Well they are bank holidays in Northern Ireland, I'm not sure if the holidays are Good Friday 21st and Monday 24th in the rest of the UK)

Just realised I finally made my 1000th post - Yay :)
