hi
i have very recently opened an alliance & leicester premier direct current account. it's not all set up yet. i haven't received my 8 digit customer id (Although the other letters i've received seem to think i should have received it). i opted for the switching process and sent off the letter to get my direct debits swapped over from my other account on monday...
but now i'm wishing i hadn't. i'm worried that i'm jumping from the frying pan into the fire - my current current account is with hsbc and i had a nightmare experience with their customer service last year, which is why i'm changing...
but i'm starting to think it's a case of "better the devil you know".
i didn't select the option of having my hsbc account closed by A&L, but can i stop the direct debits being swapped over??
i initially wanted to switch because my overdraft is currently interest free, but won't be after june and the interest rates are higher with A&L, but now i've been reading about A&L and no one seems to have anything good to say about them!
maybe i'm better off sticking with hsbc and not bothering to change accounts.
can i stop the direct debits being switched over and close the account i've just opened??

"Call Alliance and Leicester and ask" is the most I could suggest, as it depends on how far the switching process has gone. Just ask them!0
