Thunderbird query

Hi
I have just put thunderbird on my machine. When it starts up it immediately shows all my past emails that have been sent to me, behind the password box. Ive spent all afternoon trying to make this private. Is there a way of having to sign in to thunderbird so that my emails are not accesible or for all and sundry to see. Is it the same with all email clients that anyone can get to see previous emails?
Thanks in advance

Do you mean you can see the inbox benind the log in box? I'm not at home at the moment so can't check. However what you could do is just create a new folder called archive, for example, and then set up a rule to move all incoming mail to that. Then even if it shows your inbox it will be empty.

Thanks for replying bill. What is on view when i click on thunderbird is all my emails and some are personal. I have talktalk yahoo and hotmail all coming through thunderbird, Iwas wondering if it was possible to make a password for tbird before it actually shows anything.

I can only see the Thunderbird start page on start up.

Hi, I've got that ticked already, is there any way to stop anyone looking at my emails, because at the moment anyone can click on t'bird and view them, apart from deleting them. If there isn't then i'll uninstall it, obviously they cant download any new ones because thats password protected.
    Thanks

You could try reading through the following thread:

    http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=273435
and this: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Protecting_the_contents_of_the_profile_-_mail specifically the warning about how easy it is to circumvent a password protected profile using Thunderbird if using the above. The easiest and most secure seems to be Trucrypt though you're in trouble if you lose that password :D

    HTH
It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.

Separate accounts for anyone that uses the machine would be a good start. So long as you remember to log off or switch user whenerver you're away from the machine.

Update: What I did in the end was add on profile password, which is a weak way but its enough for me, it just deters prying eyes

Glad to hear you got your thunderbird problem sorted out.

As for my username, it doesn't actually stand for 'Aggravated Bodily Harm' which is what most people assume funnily enough. It was supposed to be an acronym for 'Another Bargain Hunter' as I didn't think I would be staying around so long, I didn't put much thought into the username. I was just going to post in one thread then abandon the account after I posted my question regarding a bargain.

I never did post the question, but did end up sticking around. :D
