Any free online/study from home courses?

Options
At the moment, I am due to move house to Coventry and with working 18.5 hrs a week as an Admin Assistant I'm likely to have dead evenings and I don't think I'd have the time with commuting to attend courses at local colleges.

What I am wondering is, is there any free online/study from home courses on the internet that are available - mainly to do with IT so I can better myself with my qualfications.

They offer free courses, I think you have to go to a local college to take the exams. So therefore not all courses are available in all areas which is the problem I had when I looked.
  • Well, I don't know about any free courses that will lead to qualifications, but if you just fancy keeping your brain active try OpenLearn on the Open University website - www.open.ac.uk - it's completely free to sign up and you can choose from loads of different subjects. Each unit of study equates to one of the chapters in an OU course book. You can also see how long you can expect to spend on each unit - some are 8 hours, some 15, some more than that.

you can also try learndirect who have a lot of courses to choose from.

Im going next week to my local learndirect to have a short assesement to see which course will be suitable for me as I need to brush up my skills with maths as Im due to start a teaching assistant course.Good luck and hope you find a suitable course
  • Thank you for your help :)

The OU Open Learn is very good, especially as you learn about a whole range of subjects and get a basic knowledge of.

As for learndirect, I did do a Maths course with them to help brush up my numeracy skills and it did pay off. I am going to look for a near one to do the ECDL with.
