It saddens me to write this message of dispair, but I have to SHOUT about my annoyance!!
On a post on MSE, someone said that a 'free' mobile ringtone was available, now I cant rmbr which thred it was, shame, cos I could screeeeam!!
I knew as soon as I tapped my nbr into the site that it was gonna be one of those that charge you for all other msg's, but I thought, ok well I'll get my free ringtone, and I chose not to register and just to get the freebie. So I thought I'd covered myself as best as I could. Now I dont normally go down this route with my mobile cos I couldn't really care less if I have a ringtone or not, but I thought what the heck, a change is as good as a rest. Silly, stupid, daft, ****, me!!!!! I have received 4 messages from them telling me I can flirt/date/'give them all my money for nothing', and it cost me a princely sum of £4.00 for that privalige. And to top it off, I never got the flaming ringtone anyway! grrrrrrrr
I have managed to stop it all now I think, but that was only cos I had saved a previous msg from them, but now I have no credit for the month!!
Sorry to babble on, but I'm an unhappy bunny

I have found the thread that silverfoxdude mentions and have reported the post for removal but just want to add to this thread for all users to beware when using these types of websites as all too often you will then find that you are paying for texts that continue to come in after the supposed free ringtone.
These texts end up costing you in the region of £1.50 to receive and can be difficult to stop. You will get no help from your network supplier and the only way to make them stop is to text the word STOP to the number sending the texts.
Worthwhile having a look at this website for further help.

I mande the mistake of downloading a ring tone about 6 months ago and couldnt understand why i was getting £17.50 extra charges on my contract phone bill each month. Vodafone didnt want to know. I eventually found out to send a message saying stop all and lo and behold they actually stopped, well about 5 days later they did. I have a pay as you go now and i wont even log onto the net through it just to be on the safe side.

I completely understand where you're coming from.
I work for a mobile phone company and one of my pet hates is the 3rd party content providers ie. jamster which hard sell customers their ringtones, games etc but make it a) incredibly expensive and b) incredibly difficult to stop due to them printing the stop procedure so small in their advertising material. From a network's point of view we're not supposed to intervene for a customer as they signed up to the service themselves however on a couple of occasions i've contacted the companies myself and stopped the services (knowing about the services makes it easy to contact them via e-mail or phone whereas a customer may not have this information/deleted the initial message with instructions on how to stop.
Just as a footnote - there are several wap sites where it's possible to download content without paying extortionate charges - the only charge you will pay is a few pence for being connected, either through gprs (data transmission charges) or dial up (where you pay for the duration of your connection)First name Mister
