Business electricity/MPAN number

Hi

I've just started renting a Portacabin with an electrivity supply. I anticipate using only a tiny amount of electricity but my curren supplier charges 25p per day standing charge. They have given me a 13 digit MPAN number which I can't input into any comparison sites. They tell me that there is no such thing as a 21-digit number that these sites require. So IO can't get any other quotes. What can I do??

As it is a business you will have different rates than residential, just ring the utility companies and ask to be put through to business.
They will take your mpan no. and give you a quote.

Thanks, unfortunately I can't get the 21-digit MPAN number that I need to access either the business electricity switching services or to get a quote direct from them!

The supplier can find the other 8 numbers with the 13 you have, or should be able to - there is a central database they have access to.
Or you can phone the MPAS for your area (see FAQ sticky) and ask them.
the other 8 numbers are used to work out how to bill you and the supplier.

The other 8 digits you need are made up of

• 2 digit profile class (01-08)
• 3 digit meter timeswitch code
• 3 digit line loss factor

These are based on the metering set up. The know this information as they have to provide it on your bill so go back and ask for it.

The 13 digit is your mpan number, the full 21 digits are your supply number.
